Coconut Shell Based Activated Carbon is a solid material consisting mainly of pure carbon and is the most powerful adsorbent. Its characteristic feature is the porous structure, and the resultant vast surface area, which may be as large as 1500 m2/gm., Coconut Shell based Activated Carbon is widely used in the water purification process plants, due to its exceptional adsorption qualities. The benefits of using Coconut Shell based Activated Carbon are low cost and higher efficiency in water treatment, such as removal of odour, colour and recuperation. The Coconut Shell Based Activated Carbon is activated by reaction with steam at a temperature of 900oC -1100oC, under controlled atmosphere in a rotary kiln. The reaction between steam and Coconut Shell Based Activated Carbon takes place at the internal surface area, creating more sites for adsorption.
