A deciduous tree with edible seeds is called Buchanania cochinchinensis (also known as Buchanania lanzan). The Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and portions of China that border India is its native habitats. Its name is chironji (or charoli). In India, the main application for these almond-flavored seeds is as a seasoning. The oil can be used locally to treat acne, pimples, and skin blemishes on the face. The oil is used to reduce the redness and irritation brought on by certain skin conditions. Indian medicinal herb charoli, commonly referred to as chironji, is used as a spice and in sweets. It has an almond-like flavor and is sometimes referred to as a melon seed. The seed is somewhat flattened and roughly the size of a lentil. The edible seed contains light, even though it can be eaten raw.
