5 Compound

Product Overview

Project Sales Corp's 5 Compound is a colourless grease like silicone material used to prevent flashovers on insulators and bushings exposed to airborne contaminants. It is easy to apply by wiping or brushing and provides a smooth coverage and doe not run off in hot wather stiffens in cold weather. The product resists ixidation, moisture, salt spray and fungus and is virtually inert and non-volatile. As perticles of dust, dirt and other contaminants fall on coated insulators, the non-conductive, water repellent silicone fluid in 5 Compound surrounds the particles. During damp, foggy weather or light misty rains, the coated particles cannot absorb water and will not become conductive. Mositure on the coated surface separates into droplets rather than forming a continuous conductive film. Leakage paths and currents and held to harmless levels for extended periods, compared with levels when 5 Compound is not used. 5 Compound is parimarily used to protect transmission insulators, distribution line insulators and power substation bushings from such contaminants as cement dust, detergents, salt spray, fertilizer, fly ash, metallic ores, chemicals and industrial dusts. It protects against flahovers, minimises electrical leakage and reduces maintenance. 5 Compound is applied to clean insulators by hand wiping or by brushing with a stiff brush. In most cases a thockness of 1.5 to 3 mm will provide maximum flashover protection for a period of 1 year or more.
