Automotive Sheet Metal Components Sheet Metal is simply metal formed into thin and flat pieces. It is one of the fundamental forms used in metal working and can be cut and bend into a variety of different shapes. Significantly, extremely thin pieces of sheet metal would be considered to be foil or leaf and pieces thicker than 1/4" or one centimeter can be considered as plate.
