Sodium carboxy methyl cellulose is an anionic water soluble polymer and is a sodium salt of a carboxymethyl ether of cellulose .It is white or grey in colour and is found generally in granule or powdered form .It is odorless , tasteless,gummy,free flowing and non toxic in nature . It act stable towards hard water , alkalies , acids and certain electrolytes . It is formed by replacing hydrogen in an acid by a metal . FORMULA : C6H9OCH2COONa SYNONYMS : Cellulose glycolic acid, sodium cellulose glycolate, carboxy methyl ether USES : Sodium carboxy methyl cellulose act as a highly effective additive for food stuff and eatable which includes sugar coating cream , icecreams, bread , cake , biscuits , instant noodles etc. Its improved processing property makes it highly used as a thickener , emulsifier , stabilizer ,glazing, bulking and a fixative agent .It finds a wide variety of application in printing ink,hair dye, detergent, paints,ceramics,textiles and drilling industry. It too acts as a suspender and viscosity agent . Its field of use also includes laxative , cosmetics and pharmaceuticals .
