Its melting point is 308 degree centigrade and boiling point is 380 degree centigrade. It is soluble in water and liquid ammonia. Natural deposits are the major source of sodium nitrate. Formula : NaNo3 Synonyms : Nitratine,Soda Niter,Saltpeter,chile saltpeter ,chile nitre,cubic nitre Uses : Sodium nitrate is used extensively as a fertilizer and a anticorrosion agent In the food industry it assists with its antimicrobial properties when used as a preservative . It also helps in the production and colour fixation of soft and proccessed cheese . It acts as an important source in the production of nitric acid . In the glass industry it is used for clarifying molten glass which helps in the production of high quality glasses. It also finds its application as an additive for concrete and as an accelator in phosphatization
