When ammonium sulphate is added in the soil , sulphate is released to form sulphuric acid , which helps in lowering the ph of the soil , and also acts as a nitrogen fertilizer which is essential for growth of plants. Its precipitation is generally used for purifying proteins . It is also used for fireproofing .Chemically, it is used in the preparation of ammonium salts .
