The molecular growth of these thermoplastic synthetic resins is limited by addition of substoichiometric amount of the formaldehyde component. Novolac resin cannot cure on their own. However,novolac can be cross-linked by addition of curing agents, such as formaldehyde or hexamethylenetetramine.
