Later in 1951, the compact all socketed Mechanical Joint Fittings were introduced for water mains. D. I. Push-on Joint Fittings were introduced in 1970s, initially up to 600 mm and after 1980 up to 1600 mm. Both Mechanical and Push-on Joint Fittings are now in use. Push-on Joint needs only one gasket but Mechanical Joint needs follower gland, gasket and tee headed bolts and nuts. With D.I.
